Serious thought about honestly?

i think is a known fact that most movie poster dun sell movie as they are. Movie poster became a celebrity endorsement product. We admit as consumer we sometime choose movies because certain celebrity acting.

Like adv , i believe every movie poster sell you a single idea. Be it you are hook by the idea, depend how effective the poster communication . Sadly we beginning to see less unique ideas portray in a movie poster and more superficial ideas.

A movie poster become a fabricated lies that mislead people.

I start to dig out movie poster that is guilty of such misleading people.
The challenging is how do I turn it into a honest poster and still communicate effective.

I challenge myself to do a series of poster of a particular genre and remake it into what i believe to be honest.

  1. hello

i can really see the difference of the posters cross-culturally. the 'hollywood'-ised kind of posters which seems to follow a particular template of sorts. there's a fixed placement of the stars' faces and figures. it's really less originality and just plain hard selling of a certain look that people seemed to buy.

i like where you're heading for your project. =D

ya, the difficult part is really how to communicate effectively. just like how you mentioned in class before, in movie poster design competitions, the good ones are not chosen.

the real challenge is that your series of posters really must be more than just aesthetically pleasing to the eye. you need to make the poster really work. it really has to be a cut above the others, for people to realise that movie posters doesn't have to always look the same.

  2. Hi Roger!

I see what you mean by the absence of honesty in movie posters, especially when most of them seem to follow a fixed template and look like they are mass-produced.

From your archive, I find that the most effective posters are those that come up with a unique illustration/image to represent the essence of the movie, as opposed to those cookie cutter posters which simply feature a screenshot from the movie.

I feel that a movie poster is essentially a concise image that condenses the entire two hours of action and plot. In this sense, I can relate that to a logo, whereby the entire ideology, philosophy and feel of a company is represented by a unique icon or image. Perhaps you could approach the movie poster in a similar manner by reflecting on what the movie is really about and distill that into a single image.

    Cheers,
    Suzy
