I like the way posters that move away from the conventional formula that moves from the screenshot plus text formula. Using just simple iconic graphics, it didn't give away much what the movie is about. In the light of your project, I feel that this approach is quite appropriate. To me the depiction of honesty is to strip of all the eye candy( i.e beautiful actress, explosions and special effects) from the poster and bring out what is essential, the core meaning of the movie, using symbolic icons.
Colors too, i think play an important part as they help you suggest the mood of the movies. Different colour combination also changes the perception of the poster.
you can also look at music sleeves , (cd jackets) they also brings out the abstract (some) , mood of the songs that what the sounds are about.
